BEN the Beamer ToeJaM Racing
BEN is a 1967 BMW 1602 with Alpina Group 2 Boxed Out Fenders. Motor is a 2.0L with Webers.
The roll cage is completed. I'm really happy on how tight I got the "A" pillars and how tight the main hoop is to the roof. I tried to get the rear cage supports to parrallel the rear roof pillars from all directions; so far BEN looks pretty good.

BEN is a tad rough. He'll get a good going through in 2007. Stay tuned for updates. Tim did manage to secure two BMW 2002 roundies parts cars, so we should have enough stuff to put BEN into top shape. Current plans are to build him for Historic Racing in BS and maybe some autocrossing. Might even license BEN for street use... We'll see...
Well, we started working on AL and found a bunch of rust underneath... So, we took one of the BMW 2002 roundies that was in much better shape and we'll move parts around. Since it's a new chassis, we've changed his name to BEN the Beamer.
Got BEN all stripped out and put up on the rotiserie. Only a few spots of rust. Not bad for a 40 year old car... Notice my helper inspecting BEN all naked...
Started building the cage. Fit all six main attachment points to plates in BEN. Drop the front bars through holes in the floor to weld on the topside. Paint the tops of the rollbars and hoops before pushing back up the entire cage for final attachments. Cover those front holes with 1/8" think mounting plates. Fix all the rust spots. They're only on superficial areas and not on the structural sections.
Installed window nets on both sides. Got the double NASCAR bars on both sides.
Installed the battery box behind the passenger seat. Got the seat rails installed.
Fuel cell installation is complete.
We've got all the body work done (racecar quality). Ben is primed.
Started work on the suspension bits and pieces.
