The rotating fixture makes it easy for those hard-to-reach welds. The cage is complete with NASCAR bars installed in both doors. Window net is installed. The dash has been modified to fit in the cage.
PETE is finally ready to go racing. First race is a double regional at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, AZ.
Looking forward to giving those Phoenix boyz a bit of competition in the S944 class in SCCA and 944S class in NASA.
Still need to get PETE on the dyno and do a bunch of testing. I've got a few ideas....
PETE's DEAD...
As you may have read, PETE was a front runner. On March 23, 2007 we killed PETE while competing in a race with MINIs at SMMR.
Here's what happened (and I warned the other drivers not to do what I did...) Cooked too hot into turn 9. PETE stepped out. Kept on the throttle through a quick turn 10. Classic pendulum rally turn. PETE slid out at turn 10, backend came around and we smacked the pitwall with the LF corner under rotation. Tim was alright. PETE is done. Motor, Transaxle, and most of the suspension is still good. Time to haul out one of the other 944 tubs, give it a name and get a cage put in.
That's racing. You gotta be willing to write off a car every time you take it on the track at speed. We don't like accidents, but that's why we have safety equipment.
So now we're starting on NIC the 944
to replace PETE
PETE's LAST RIDE TO THE SCRAPYARD
In the end... PETE was worth $21.00 at the scrapyard...
