WASCAL was basically a rebuilt from another 1984 VW ITB Rabbit that had been beat up pretty badly. Tim stripped off the entire undercoating and put a lot of work into this very first racecar. Built in the spring of 2001.
Many of the parts are moved over. You can see the donor WASCAL in the background. The red paint is cut-in so the car can be painted as a complete unit.
All the parts are moved over. WASCAL is now ready for the paintshop.
WASCAL just before the very first race, MARRS 1 @ Summit Point, WV in 2001.
Another view of WASCAL before the very first race.
Here's poor WASCAL all beat up after the very first race MARRS 1 in 2001. While competiting for 4th place another driver forced WASCAL & Tim off the track just past the start/finish line. The other driver was penalized and lost his racing license for 9 months.
There really wasn't a straight section on the poor little WASCAL. The roll cage did its job as designed and built.
Everything is tweaked on this poor little VW.
Basically the suspension was ripped away from the frame. Terry never saw WASCAL when it was finished. She never saw WASCAL all beat up either. These are the only pictures she ever saw.
A couple of years after the incident, Tim showed Terry where he was forced off and hit an embankment at about 110mph, flipping and twisting and coming to rest about 180 feet away from impact. Tim was unhurt, except for minor bruising on his shoulders from the safety harness.
